Nehemiah 2
Courage to rebuild
Nehemiah 2 describes Nehemiah’s response to the king, his request to rebuild Jerusalem, and the first steps of inspection and organization for the work. Read the full text here.
Text Structure
Ne 2:1-3
The opportunity before the king. Nehemiah shows visible sorrow and is given the chance to express his desire to rebuild Jerusalem.
Ne 2:4-8
The strategic request. Nehemiah prays and then asks for permission, resources, and protection to begin the reconstruction of the city.
Ne 2:9-10
The initial opposition. Resistance already arises, revealing that every meaningful work faces opposition from the beginning.
Ne 2:11-16
The inspection of the city. Nehemiah secretly evaluates the condition of Jerusalem, wisely planning the next steps.
Ne 2:17-18
The mobilization of the people. Nehemiah calls the people to rebuild, inspiring unity and courage in the face of the challenge.
Ne 2:19-20
The response to opposition. Nehemiah declares his trust in God and rejects intimidation from his opponents.
