Text Structure

1 Kgs 21:1-4

Ahab’s desire. Ahab wants Naboth’s vineyard, but Naboth refuses to sell it. Ahab’s reaction reveals frustration and an inability to accept boundaries and disappointment.

1 Kgs 21:5-10

Jezebel’s manipulation. Jezebel devises a scheme to falsely accuse Naboth, using her influence and authority to get what she wants.

1 Kgs 21:11-16

The execution of injustice. Naboth is unjustly put to death, and Ahab takes possession of the vineyard, demonstrating the corrupt misuse of power.

1 Kgs 21:17-24

Judgment announced. God sends Elijah to confront Ahab and declare the consequences of his actions.

1 Kgs 21:25-26

A spiritual assessment. The passage emphasizes the severity of Ahab’s wickedness and the influence Jezebel had over him.

1 Kgs 21:27-29

Ahab’s response. Ahab humbles himself before God, and the Lord delays part of the judgment, showing that repentance still matters.

Reflection

1 Kings 21 shows how unchecked desire can lead to injustice. Ahab allowed his wants to override what was right and honorable.
