1Sm 6:1-6

The decision to return the ark. After continuous suffering, the Philistines seek guidance and recognize that they cannot resist the God of Israel, deciding to return the ark with reverence and care.

1Sm 6:7-12

The test with the new cart. They prepare a cart with cows and observe the path, seeking to confirm whether the events were truly the work of God or mere coincidence.

1Sm 6:13-18

The arrival in Israel. The ark returns, and the people receive it with joy, offering sacrifices and recognizing God’s action at that moment.

1Sm 6:19-21

The neglected reverence. Some men look inside the ark and are punished, showing that lack of respect for the sacred brings serious consequences.

Reflection

1 Samuel 6 shows that even those who do not fully know God can recognize His power. The Philistines understood what Israel had ignored.

The test reveals how humans try to rationalize God’s actions. Even so, God confirms His work in a clear way.

The reaction in Israel shows that proximity to the sacred requires reverence. Familiarity cannot replace respect.
