Text Structure
Ex 20:1-2
The divine introduction. God presents Himself as the One who delivered Israel, establishing His authority and grounding His commandments in redemption.
Ex 20:3-11
The commandments about God. The first commandments address the relationship with God, including exclusive worship, reverence, and the principle of the Sabbath.
Ex 20:12-17
The commandments about others. The following commandments guide human relationships, promoting honor, respect, justice, and purity.
Ex 20:18-21
The people’s response. In the face of the divine manifestation, the people are afraid and keep their distance, asking Moses to act as mediator.
Ex 20:22-26
The final instructions. God reinforces principles about worship, emphasizing simplicity and reverence in relating to Him.

Reflection
