Reflection

Genesis 17 shows that God not only makes promises, but also redefines identity and purpose.

As presented in Patriarchs and Prophets, chapter 12, the name change of Abram and Sarai represents a new phase in their relationship with God, marked by commitment and deeper meaning. God expands His promise and makes it clear that He is in control of its fulfillment. Abraham’s reaction reveals that, even in the presence of faith, doubts and human limitations may still exist. Even so, God reaffirms His word and directs the fulfillment of the promise in a specific way.

This passage teaches us that God transforms not only circumstances, but also who we are. His promise does not depend on human ability, but on His faithfulness to fulfill what He has established.
